Continue readingOrganized around the current central atrium the project aims to reconfigure the entire building respecting it’s structural grid. A rational the study of its structural systems, four hydraulic cores were created to attend all floors. On the ground floor, curved walls and soft ramps protect the interior from the street, creating a smooth transition to a large area open atrium. The Atrium is organized around a water mirror that allows all the functions of the building to communicate in harmony.
Continue readingSteriPak is a kit that converts end of life gas cylinders into autoclaves for sterilising medical and baby equipment. Each kit costs less than 10USD. SteriPak empowers the community as the conversion itself provides work for locals that does not rely on specialised equipment. Many clinics in sub Saharan Africa are forced to reuse surgical equipment like scalpels and forceps due to their expense. SteriPak only requires water and a heat source to achieve safe, consistent sterilisation of this equipment to lower infant mortality rates and increase overall quality of life.
Continue readingThe bachelor thesis (ISIA Urbino, supervisor: Luciano Perondi) investigates the problem of accessibility within the graphical representation of space and takes the form of a tactile artefact accessible to the blind and visually impaired. The goal is to make the geography of an area available both in economic as well as content terms, thanks to the combination of a low-cost printing technique and a specific representative approach. The project consists of a set of tactile maps and a research programme that documents the design process and the first phase of testing with blind people.
Continue readingUnder Pressure is a simulation training program for journalists in the face of a crisis situation. The tool is an interactive website, with tasks meant to sharpen reportage and decision-making skills. Scenarios featured in the module are based on actual natural disasters and emergencies that happened in the Philippines. The program will also be translated in augmented and virtual reality technology, allowing users to immerse themselves in the actual disaster or emergency scenario.
Continue readingGantous Arquitectos in collaboration with Mexican sculptor Javier Marín, were the winners of a competition hosted by the State of Zacatecas in 2008 for the design and construction of a high altarpiece for the Zacatecas Cathedral, as well as the complete overhaul of its presbytery. The brief was to create a project which would complement the Cathedral’s magnificent 17th century Baroque façade, while balancing the austere neoclassical interiors. The resulting 10 meter wide by 16.7 meter high altarpiece is composed of geometric prisms rising from the highest platform of the ceremonial space.
